Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects over 150 million people worldwide, with a prevalence that varies markedly from population to population. Estimates predict that almost 300 million people will suffer from DM by 2025 with the vast majority being cases of diabetes mellitus type 2. Diabetes is of two types, type 1 accounting for 5% prevalence and type 2 for 95% prevalence among diabetics. The purpose of this review is to provide the reader with knowledge concerning the diabetes treatment using alternative forms of insulin delivery.
